Meet Denise

Psychotherapist

Denise is a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist with more than 35 years’ experience working with individuals and couples.

Warm, thoughtful and reflective, Denise helps people explore relationship difficulties, loss, life changes and experiences that may still be affecting them today.

Alongside her work with clients, Denise also provides support and consultation to colleagues across TMH.

Experience

Denise trained with Relate in Kent, where her early work included supporting couples and families, as well as working in a crisis drop-in centre in Chatham.

She established her own private Central London practice in the mid-1990s and now works part-time online from Suffolk with clients across the UK and internationally.

Denise has particular extensive experience supporting people with depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and significant periods of change.

Grief and bereavement have been a particular focus throughout her career. She has worked alongside a Pets as Therapy dog in hospices and adolescent services and has also written a book exploring pet bereavement and the impact of loss.

Denise also spent 12 years as a Governor for Coram Family, one of the UK’s leading adoption support organisations, where she developed further insight into adoption, parent-child relationships and maintaining family connections following separation.

Denise's approach

Denise knows that experiences from the past can continue to affect how we feel, relate to others and respond to change in the present.

Her style is calm, compassionate and reflective. She’s particularly interested in helping people navigate grief, relationship difficulties, questions of identity and self-worth, and periods of significant change.

She brings perspective and curiosity to her work, helping people make sense of what matters to them and what may be keeping them stuck.
