Terms & Conditions

Updated: July 2026
Reviewed By: Dylan Pomietlo
Approved By: Clinical Director

This document is the public-facing version of the TMH Therapeutic Services Contract. It explains the basis upon which Teenage Mental Health Ltd provides its weekly therapy service. By commencing or continuing therapy with TMH, clients and, where appropriate, those accepting contractual and financial responsibility, agree to these Terms & Conditions together with our associated policies.

Payment and Fees

Teenage Mental Health Ltd (TMH) is an independent private limited company and does not receive statutory funding. Fees are charged to enable us to provide safe, ethical and sustainable therapeutic services.

An initial assessment is provided free of charge and usually lasts between 30 and 50 minutes, although it may be shorter or longer depending upon the needs of the individual.

TMH reserves the right to refuse or discontinue an assessment where it is not clinically appropriate or safe to continue.

The weekly therapy service fee is £85 and is payable on or before each scheduled appointment. At the commencement of therapy, £170 is payable, covering the first week’s service and the final week’s service in advance.

The final week’s service prepayment supports a planned therapeutic ending, is non-refundable, and may be applied towards any outstanding fees owed to TMH.

Weekly Therapy Service

TMH provides a continuing weekly therapy service rather than ad hoc appointments.

The weekly service includes:

  • One 50-minute therapy session each week.
  • Exclusive reservation of the agreed weekly appointment time.
  • Clinical administration, treatment planning and record keeping.
  • Safeguarding activity, consultation and clinical support where clinically appropriate.
  • Reasonable communication with parents, carers and professionals where clinically appropriate.
  • Reasonable communication with the wider TMH clinical team for advice and guidance where necessary for parents and carers.

The weekly therapy service consists of one scheduled session each week. Sessions cannot be banked, carried forward or replaced by two sessions in a later week.

The weekly service fee remains payable whether or not the client attends, the appointment time remains reserved exclusively for that client.

Attendance, Cancellations & Appointment Changes

Clients should notify reception as soon as reasonably practicable if they cannot attend.

Where attendance in person is not possible because of illness, injury, holidays, travel, severe weather, transport disruption, public health restrictions or similar temporary circumstances, the weekly fee remains payable in all cases.

TMH may offer a secure video or telephone appointment where reasonably practicable.

If a client does not accept a remote or other appointment, the weekly therapy service fee remains payable.

Public holidays do not automatically suspend or cancel the weekly therapy service.

Where a therapist is unavailable and no suitable alternative appointment can be arranged, no fee is payable for that week’s service.

Exceptional Circumstances

Requests to waive or reduce fees are considered individually at the Company’s reasonable discretion.
Examples not normally regarded as exceptional include but are not restricted to:

  • Common illness or short-term sickness.
  • Non-urgent appointments with other professionals.
  • Traffic, vehicle or public transport difficulties.
  • School commitments.
  • Holidays, weekends away or planned absences.
Therapist Availability

If a therapist is unavailable for any reason, including but not limited to annual leave, illness, training, professional commitments, or unforeseen circumstances, TMH cannot guarantee minimum notice periods but will endeavor to provide as much notice as reasonably possible in the circumstances.

Where reasonably practicable, an alternative appointment may be offered. If TMH cannot provide the agreed weekly therapy service due to their or the therapist’s change of availability, and no suitable alternative appointment can be arranged, no fee will be payable for that week’s service.

Teenage Mental Health Responsibilities
  • To be available at your agreed appointment time and to begin and end sessions promptly.
  • To provide a quiet, appropriate, safe, and uninterrupted therapeutic environment.
  • To maintain safe, professional, and appropriate therapeutic boundaries at all times.
  • To treat all information shared within therapy as confidential, except where we believe there is a risk of immediate and significant harm to the client or another person, where there are safeguarding concerns, or where disclosure is otherwise required by law.
    • Please refer to our Confidentiality Policy, available on our website at www.teenagementalhealth.co.uk, a copy of which will have been provided to you before therapy commenced.
  • To encourage client autonomy and support each client to make informed decisions throughout the therapeutic process.
  • To practise in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Therapy Professions, including undertaking regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.
  • To review the therapeutic work and the therapeutic relationship on an ongoing basis to ensure that therapy continues to meet the client’s needs and remains clinically appropriate.
  • To discuss client work within professional supervision, clinical consultation, and safeguarding processes where appropriate, whilst maintaining confidentiality and anonymity wherever reasonably possible.
Patient and Client Responsibilities

To help us provide a safe, consistent, and effective weekly therapy service, we ask that patients and clients (or those with parental responsibility where appropriate) agree to the following:

  • To attend each agreed weekly service therapy session punctually and, where possible, arrive a few minutes before the scheduled appointment time.
  • To notify TMH as soon as reasonably practicable if you are unable to attend a scheduled session. As we owe all clients a duty of care, we may make reasonable attempts to contact you following an unexpected non-attendance where we have not been informed in advance. This forms part of our safeguarding responsibilities and Duty of Care.
  • To pay the agreed weekly therapy service fee, currently £85 per week, on or before each scheduled session, whether by cash, card, or BACS transfer.
  • To engage with therapy as consistently as possible. Clinical evidence suggests that regular weekly attendance provides the greatest opportunity for therapeutic progress, and TMH strongly endorses this approach.
  • Where attendance in person is not possible due to holidays, travel, illness or injury, or other temporary circumstances, clients are expected to attend remotely by secure video session wherever reasonably practicable. The weekly therapy service fee remains payable regardless of whether the session is delivered in person, remotely or not attended.
  • To communicate openly with your therapist or TMH if you are considering ending therapy, taking an extended break, or experiencing difficulties attending sessions, so that these can be explored therapeutically and appropriate plans can be made wherever possible.
  • Please be aware that weekly therapy appointments are reserved exclusively for each client. Owing to high demand, repeated non-attendance, extended periods of absence, or poor engagement may result in TMH reviewing whether it is appropriate to continue reserving the regular appointments or to continue services. In such circumstances, we reserve the right to pause or end services and offer the appointment to another client where this is considered clinically and operationally appropriate. Where possible, TMH will always seek to communicate with the client or those with parental responsibility before doing so.
  • Where a client is absent for more than one consecutive week without prior agreement, or there has been no contact with TMH, we reserve the right to consider the therapy ended and to offer the regular appointment to another client. Where possible, TMH will always seek to communicate with the client or those with parental responsibility before doing so.
Supervision

All therapists receive regular professional supervision and may consult Clinical Leads, the Clinical Director, safeguarding leads or other appropriately qualified professionals. Identifiable information is anonymised wherever reasonably possible.

Ending Therapy

Either the client or TMH may bring therapy to an end. Wherever reasonably possible, endings should be planned and discussed within therapy, as the ending itself forms an important part of the therapeutic process.

The final planned session will ordinarily be funded by the final week’s service prepayment. TMH reserves the right to apply that prepayment towards outstanding fees before it is used for the final planned session.

Final Statement

By commencing or continuing therapy with TMH, clients and those accepting contractual and financial responsibility confirm that they have read, understood and agree to these Terms & Conditions together with the TMH Therapeutic Services Contract and associated policies.
